The thing is, these people probably don’t consider themselves racists. I’ve had encounters with so many of these trolls who dissociate acts of racism they can commit on the Internet from their Self. But at the end of the day you still have used racial slurs and other racist associations against a black person? So what’s your logic I’m always baffled by people who can said the most violently racist things and still think of themself as not part of the race problem. This is one of the many forms systematic racism express itself.
Words are real living things. They have allegiances, power, and culture. Out and in context. That is, even as a joke they still hold their power and project it. It’s not just a joke.
On a more general note: All white and nonblack simblrs should reflect on the place they take in anti-blackness once in a while. Not being actively racist doesn’t prevent you from being part of the problem.
If you had all forgotten I’m black and I just don’t want to be apathetic about all of this.
The simblr community is riddled with racism among other systems of discrimination and that’s a thing that tends to happens when people form communities. But we should always adress it and reflect on our behaviour. It’s not just a game. Saying that is really not understanding how culture works and how we shape it and are shaped by it.
If you’re uncomfortable that’s okay, it’s your White Fragility. But our brains plasticity allows us to change. So take a little time for yourself and think about all that. Then if you still chose to be a part of the problem I guess hit that unfollow button?
