-the next day-

I got a job at this magazine company to get a jump start on my writing career. I aspire to be an author…of romance novels to be exact. Romance and suspense are my two favorite things when it comes to books. Especially when things get erotic…but I don’t tell people that. Who would tell people that?

I agreed to go to the cookout. I’m sure I’ll be fine. Just us friends, burgers, and swimming. Sounds perfect to me. It’s summer and I should really get out and do something before it’s over.

Of course, seeing all my friends again makes me a bit anxious though. I left with no warning and I ignored all their texts…besides Melony’s. I hope they’re not pissed at me or anything.

Living right across the road from my best friend is awesome. Surprise visits are my favorite thing. Now I’ll get them all the time.

Mel: All of us are actually going to Cory’s house for a cookout this weekend, if you wanna come?

Bev: Mmmm, maybe, I don’t know. I don’t know if I’m ready to see all of them again.

Mel: Oh c’mon, we’re all the same as we used to be. It’ll be like old times!

Bev: You know I didn’t have as great of a time as you guys did. I kinda don’t want it to be like old times.

Mel: ..well, I’ll make sure it isn’t! C’mon, pleeeeease.

Mel and I told each other pretty much everything. Since we were about eight, I’ve had this huge crush on my friend Cory. She’s right, I am still hung up on him. I don’t know why though. He’s like the typical rich kid fuck boy. Nobody wants that. But I think I see the best in him. She thinks I’m delusional. I don’t care.
